Volatility measures how sharply and often price moves. Crypto is far more volatile than stocks or gold, which sets the size of both opportunity and risk. Below is today's 30-day volatility for major coins, followed by how it is calculated and read.

How is volatility calculated?

Take daily log returns of closes, compute their standard deviation and annualize. Crypto trades every day, so √365 is used (stocks usually √252). A 2.6% daily standard deviation is about 2.6% × √365 ≈ 50% annualized.

Converting annual volatility to a daily move

Divide by √365: 50% annual volatility is about ±2.6% a day (one standard deviation). Single days can be several times that; crypto returns have fat tails.

Realized vs implied volatility

Realized volatility comes from past prices; implied volatility from option prices reflects expected volatility. ByStock shows realized volatility only. Volatility does not show direction. Educational only, not investment advice.
