What is open interest?
The total size of futures positions not yet closed. Every long has a short, so it counts one side. It rises when positions open and falls when they close (including liquidations).
What does rising open interest mean?
New positions — and usually leverage — are entering. It does not show direction and is not a trading signal on its own.
Why do dollar and coin changes differ?
Dollar open interest also moves with price. The 24h change on this page is in coin terms, so price effect is removed.
